Teman was a son of Eliphaz, grandson of Esau, and ancestral figure associated with an important Edomite clan and region.
Biography
Genesis 36 and 1 Chronicles 1 list Teman among Eliphaz's sons and among the chiefs of Edom. Later biblical books use Teman geographically for a district or people of Edom and associate it with wisdom. Eliphaz the Temanite in Job bears a designation connected with this name.
Biblical Significance
Teman links Esau's genealogy with a prominent Edomite clan and territory. The ancestor should be distinguished from the later geographic designation.
