Tiberias
Tiberias was a city built by Herod Antipas on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee and named for the emperor Tiberius. It is mentioned in John’s Gospel and later became an important center of Jewish learning.
Biblical Usage
Tiberias is mentioned in John in connection with the Sea of Galilee and Jesus’ appearances or activities there. The Gospels do not record that Jesus entered the city.
