TABOR, MOUNT
Mount Tabor is an isolated mountain on the border of Issachar near the Plain of Esdraelon. It was associated with Deborah and Barak’s battle against Sisera and later became a place of pilgrimage; a later tradition, not established by the biblical text, identified it with the Transfiguration.
Biblical Usage
Deborah and Barak gathered forces at Tabor before attacking Sisera. The mountain is also mentioned by Jeremiah and Hosea, the latter alluding to ensnaring worship there. A later tradition placed the Transfiguration on Tabor, but the supplied account states that the biblical text does not establish this identification.
