SONG
A song is a vocal or poetic composition, whether sacred or secular. Scripture includes songs of worship, thanksgiving, lament, victory, instruction, and national celebration, with the Psalms forming the chief collection of sacred songs.
Biblical Usage
Songs accompany worship, thanksgiving, national occasions, and religious feeling. The headings of the Psalms preserve names or opening words that may have identified older melodies or lyrics. “Spiritual songs” are associated with devotional praise and the life of the Spirit.
