SON OF MAN, THE
“The Son of Man” is Jesus’ characteristic self-designation in the Gospels. Drawing especially on Daniel’s vision, the title presents Him as the promised Messiah who would suffer, give His life for many, receive authority, and come in glory to judge.
Biblical Usage
The title echoes the Old Testament, especially Daniel’s figure who receives dominion and an everlasting kingdom. Jesus uses it both of His suffering and of His future coming in glory to judge. He declares that the Son of Man came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.
