Shittim
Shittim, or Abel-shittim, was Israel’s final encampment east of the Jordan, in the plains of Moab. From there Joshua sent spies to Jericho before Israel crossed the Jordan.
Biblical Usage
At Shittim Israel encamped after victories over Sihon and Og and fell into the snare associated with Balaam’s counsel. From there Joshua secretly sent spies to view the land and Jericho, and the host afterward moved toward the Jordan.
