Shem
Shem was the son of Noah and ancestor of the peoples traditionally associated with the Semitic nations. He was preserved through the Flood and became an ancestor in the line leading to Abraham and Israel.
Biblical Usage
Shem is repeatedly listed first among Noah’s sons. He shared in the blessing after the Flood, helped cover Noah’s nakedness, and became the father of the line leading through Arpachshad to Abraham and Israel. Noah’s blessing concerning Canaan is associated with his descendants.
