Shadrach
Shadrach was the Babylonian name given to Hananiah, one of the Jewish youths taken captive to Babylon. He refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar’s image and was miraculously preserved in the fiery furnace.
Biblical Usage
Shadrach refused, with Meshach and Abednego, to bow before Nebuchadnezzar’s image. Cast into the fiery furnace, he was preserved unharmed, and the event caused the king to recognize the greatness of the God of Israel. He also joined his companions in prayer when the Babylonian wise men were threatened.
