Serpent
The serpent is a creature frequently mentioned in Scripture and often used as a symbol of danger, deceit, or evil. The serpent in Eden became an instrument of temptation, while the lifted bronze serpent became a sign of healing.
Biblical Usage
The serpent appears in the temptation and fall, where it serves as the instrument of Satan. It also represents a deadly enemy, appears among the wilderness judgments, and is associated with the bronze serpent through which wounded Israelites received healing. Christ and later Scripture use serpent imagery in connection with evil, wisdom, and deliverance.
