Lachish
Lachish was a fortified city in the lowlands of Judah. Israel captured it under Joshua; it later became a stronghold of Judah and was attacked by the Assyrian king Sennacherib.
Biblical Usage
Lachish’s king joined the Canaanite resistance to Joshua and was defeated. Later the city was associated with Judah’s defenses, the Assyrian invasion under Sennacherib, and the settlement of returned Jews.
