Seal
Objects & Symbols - Both
A seal was an engraved signet or impression used to authenticate documents, mark ownership, ratify agreements, or secure a closed object. Figuratively, Scripture uses sealing for confirmation, possession, protection, and the Spirit’s mark upon believers.
SEALED, FOUNTAIN
Objects & Symbols - Old Testament
The “sealed fountain” in Song of Solomon describes the bride as specially protected and reserved. In the ancient setting, sealing a fountain or well also signified guarding a valuable water supply.
SEALSKIN
Temple & Tabernacle - Old Testament
Sealskin is an older translation for the material called tachash, used for coverings of the tabernacle and in a figurative description of Jerusalem. The material may instead have been porpoise or dugong skin.
SEAR
Sin & Judgment - New Testament
To have the conscience seared means to have it made insensitive, like flesh cauterized by a hot iron. The passage may also suggest being branded as a mark of hypocrisy and guilt.

Scripture - Both
To search means to investigate carefully, examine the Scriptures, or discover what is hidden. When God searches the heart, He exposes and knows a person’s inward thoughts and motives.

“Search the Scriptures” refers to Jesus’ statement in John 5:39. The wording may be understood either as a command to examine Scripture or, more likely, as a declaration that His hearers were searching it while failing to come to Him.
